First Draft Proposal:
A series of Sunrise and Sunset Photographs depicting the world as ‘’a beautiful place”
See outcome 1 in research folder and two
The intention of this proposal is to reaffirm that the ”world is a beautiful place” by creating a series of landscape abstract ‘reflective’ images depicting sunrise and sunset comparing the tonal values and light changes from two to three separate locations.
Inspiration for this conceptual idea came from a holiday this year in Andalucia (see examples attached), where I became fascinated by a wide variety of colours that changed from moment to moment.
Finding the right location is essential research for this project. I will be using ‘The Photographer’s Ephemeris Tool’ to enable me to establish the direct time and direction of the sunrise and sunset. (http://photoephemeris.com)
Additional research will involve studying the composition, context and conceptual work of ten different photographers who work in this genre (see advanced studio practice 2a: ten photographers below).
Two to three locations for my proposal have been put forward after looking at areas in Yorkshire and Northumberland; namely Bamburgh Castle, Embsay Reservoir and Saltburn, which have a commercial connotation to sell as they are already established landscape destinations depicting sunrises and sunsets over water. The challenge will be to depict these beautiful landscapes in the best possible way.
Format: In colour, digital, wide angle lens, full frame, on external location (see above). Long focal length, a carefully chosen viewpoint, exposure compensation to suit conditions, tripod, manual ISO, manual white balance, RAW, checking image frequently on the LCD, establishing shots near the horizon and testing out centre weighted metering.
Fine art exhibitions, galleries, cards, advertising for holiday destinations, any section of society.
The Photographs below are Examples of Sunrise and Sunset Photography by me which are currently at an exhibition at the Fabric Gallery, 33a Broadway, Bradford.
